AION 2 Templar: Manage Attention and Defensive Timing
Use the reported Provoke and shield tools to support a tanking task, while separating a threat problem from an avoidable positioning mistake.
SPACE4GAMES describes Templar as a Longsword-and-Shield tank using attacks to build aggro, Provoke to focus a boss and defensive skills for damage spikes. Plan attention and protection together; a Korean damage estimate does not establish global tank strength.
Control attention without losing support
Tanking begins with a target the party can fight safely. The September report explains that the Templar draws enemy attention and keeps the boss focused on itself. That makes the first task identifying which enemy must remain occupied while allies act. If attacks move toward another player, inspect the target and your available threat tools instead of assuming that wearing a shield automatically keeps attention.
Defensive timing is a separate decision. The guide lists Doom Shield as absorbing heavy damage and Shield Rush as a gap closer. Saving protection for a dangerous moment can be more useful than using every available skill at the start, but the source does not supply current cooldown lengths or a guaranteed mitigation cycle. A shield also does not prove that you can ignore an area mechanic. Use positioning and the live defensive description together.
Compare the Global leveling skill names
The linked gaming.tools Global leveling planner supplies a second, newer reference for a starting preset. The named relationships below are its recommendations; compare them with the skills actually unlocked on your character.

- Open this class’s linked Global leveling planner and set your character level.
- Enter the build from a new character or its armory-loading option; inspect the proposed Daevanion nodes before spending skill points.
- Compare one proposed skill relationship in a short encounter before copying its whole preset.
This is a fan planner checked October 7. Its level-dependent plan is a reference, and no current damage ranking, automatic macro behavior or complete endgame build was independently tested.
Practise threat, protection and movement
- Choose the enemy your party needs controlled and begin from a position where allies can reach the same encounter.
- Use the actual attacks and inspect where enemy attention goes; reserve Provoke for a relevant attention problem instead of pressing it without a target plan.
- Read the live defensive skill and identify the dangerous action you want it to cover.
- Use a movement tool only when the destination supports the tanking task; a gap closer can also move you away from useful support.
- After the exchange, distinguish lost attention, mistimed defense and an avoidable position before changing equipment.

| Situation | Choice | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Boss attacks another player | Inspect threat and the available Provoke | Attention is part of the reported kit |
| Heavy attack is approaching | Consider a defensive skill and position | Protection needs a useful timing |
| Target leaves useful range | Compare a deliberate gap close | Movement must serve the party task |
| Tank survives but party cannot act | Reassess the encounter position | Personal durability is not the entire role |
Separate threat failures from bad positioning
The report mentions Fury as a party damage buff, but this page does not assign it a current percentage or promise it stacks with every other buff. The same caution applies to Korean claims about Templar damage relative to other classes. Judge an early tanking attempt by whether attention, support access and defensive timing worked together. If one fails, address that part first. This gives a first Templar a concrete encounter plan without presenting a tested endgame rotation or an exact global threat formula.
SPACE4GAMES September 27, 2026 pre-launch report mixes Launch Scale Test observations and Korean experience. This is an attributed role plan, not a current global damage ranking or gameplay test.
