AION 2 Leveling: Return to the Story After the Gate
Use the main quest as the route, and select nearby side content only when it addresses an actual Ascension requirement or a useful early upgrade.
Fextralife’s October 3 beginner page and Skycoach’s September 30 guide both prioritize the main story and use other content to fill progression gaps. Follow the actual Episode or story objective, then address the displayed gate instead of clearing every side activity immediately.
Read the Episode blocker before leaving the route
The main route is a useful organizing principle because it introduces regions and systems together. Skycoach describes yellow Episode markers, while Fextralife says the story provides experience and points toward unlocks. Neither statement means every side objective is useless. The wiki explicitly notes that some story steps require additional zone progress or upgrades, and Skycoach later describes Regional Quests, Sealed Dungeons and Strongholds filling an Ascension Gauge.
The useful decision is which nearby activity solves the current gap. A Regional Quest that offers an accessory you actually need can serve both the gate and equipment progression. A convenient Sealed Dungeon or Stronghold can be another reported option when the relevant gauge accepts it. The sources differ in how aggressively they recommend postponing side systems, and Skycoach’s Ascension numbering is inconsistent within the article. This page therefore does not promise a universal level-by-level speedrun or copy its ordinal labels.
Fill the missing requirement and return
- Follow the live story or Episode objective until the game presents a specific unmet requirement.
- Read whether the blocker is a quest, gauge, character level or an entry metric rather than assuming all stalls need more experience.
- Choose a nearby activity the actual requirement accepts, preferring a useful reward or route over clearing unrelated markers.
- After completing it, inspect the requirement again and return to the story when the next step opens.
- Save distant collection cleanup for a deliberate later session unless it directly addresses the current progression need.

| Situation | Choice | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Story objective is available | Continue the main route | It organizes early progression |
| Ascension gauge is incomplete | Use accepted nearby activities | Side content can fill a concrete gap |
| Useful accessory quest is nearby | Compare its reward with the need | One detour may solve two tasks |
| A gate names an equipment metric | Address that metric | More random experience may not unlock it |
Keep useful rewards when the story resumes
Keep a short record of what the gate asked for and which activity changed it. That makes a later stall easier to diagnose without treating every map marker as mandatory. Fextralife’s advice to upgrade core skills also differs from Skycoach’s more aggressive postponement, so the live encounter difficulty should guide how much temporary investment is needed. The source guides are not a measured Global leveling benchmark. This page supplies a concrete main-route-and-gap routine without promising a time to cap or claiming every regional quest can safely be skipped.
Fextralife beginner page updated October 3 with service unspecified; Skycoach September 30 guide includes playtest-derived systems and commercial promotions. No Global route or completion time was tested.
Use named Ascension checkpoints and nearby first clears

| Level | Story Ascension name | First check |
|---|---|---|
| 22 | The One Who Hears the Voice | Episode prerequisite and gauge |
| 32 | The One Who Dreams | Unfinished nearby Regional content |
| 45 | The One Who Witnesses the Nightmare | Remaining story and Ascension objectives |
For a nearby first-clear detour, the guide lists Fortress Jail at Verteron Fortress Ruins for Elyos and Abandoned Memorial Room at Uruthumheim for Asmodians. Use an unfinished location on your actual route. Its weekly Ascension Trial is a separate solo activity and does not replace the named story quest.
- Open the Journal and read the missing Episode or Ascension condition.
- Use an unfinished nearby Regional quest or first clear that advances that condition.
- Select the newly available story Ascension and complete its objective.
- Return to the Episode chain as soon as the blocker clears.
The added GameTruth guide does not identify its regional client or game build. Its quest names, skill thresholds and routes are attributed references to compare with your own service.
The dated source records and this article’s wording were reviewed on October 7, 2026. “Last checked” means source and editorial review. No current game client, account, installation, purchase or reward delivery was independently tested. Older sources retain their original dates, service regions and version limits.
